Curfew begins Wednesday night in Whiteville
Update: On September 18, 2018, the citywide curfew in Whiteville was lifted. The dusk to dawn curfew remains in effect for downtown Whiteville.
Whiteville will enforce a dusk until dawn curfew in the city starting today (Wednesday) at 7 p.m.
Mayor Terry Mann made the announcement this afternoon.
The curfew will apply primarily to downtown, in areas where some thefts occurred in the hours after Hurricane Matthew in 2016.
The boundaries for the curfew are for the area from the intersection of Lee and Webster Streets to Franklin Street, encompassing all of downtown.
Whiteville Police will be increasing patrols in the area until the curfew and state of emergency are lifted.
