The City of Whiteville 2025 Property Tax Rate is $0.54 cents per $100 in value. The Downtown Municipal District Tax Rate is $0.12 cents per $100 in value.
The Storm Water Fee is $230 for commercial property and $115.00 for residential property.
Owners of property in Whiteville will receive a City of Whiteville Tax Bill and a Columbus County Tax Bill.
Annual property tax bills are due on September 1 and are delinquent after January 5. Taxes must be paid before the delinquent date to avoid interest charges. Payments sent by mail are considered received based on the date of the United States Postal Service postmark on the envelope.
The ownership, valuation, and taxable status and situs of real and personal property are determined annually as of January 1.
It is the property owner’s obligation to ensure the timely payment of taxes. If funds are held in escrow to pay this bill, please forward the bill to the appropriate mortgage holder and confirm the bill is paid promptly by the lender.
It is the responsibility of the owner as of January 1 to ensure taxes levied on real property are paid in full. The Tax Collector’s office is not involved in agreements between buyers and sellers.
On January 6, a 2% interest accrues on unpaid real and personal property taxes from the current fiscal year. An additional .75% interest accrues on the first day of every month on delinquent taxes.
